A set-top box is a device that is connected to another - usually a TV - and the user should provide additional uses.
A streaming client is a special client for streaming media content. Known streaming clients are e.g. the Amazon Fire TV Stick, set-top boxes from the manufacturer infomir or Apple Tv.
HDMI stands for High Definition Multimedia Interface. HDMI cables are used in the multimedia sector for the transmission of video and audio signals, e.g. when connecting a receiver to a TV.
OpenELEC (Open Embedded Linux Entertainment Center) is a free operating system and media center. Usually, OpenELEC is operated by a receiver on a regular TV and controlled by a remote control.
Several vendors provide video-on-demand (short: VoD) libraries that allow you to watch your favorite series and movies on demand - in most cases on your smartphone or tablet.
HEVC stands for "High Efficiency Video Coding". This is a codec, similar to MP3 for audio files, in which the original material was compressed. The advantage of HEVC compressed content is that it consumes significantly less storage space and is easier to stream over the network.
The term codec (e.g., MP3, HEVC) refers to an algorithm pair that has the task of digitally encoding and decoding data and signals, for example, to reduce the required storage capacity of audio and video content.
"UHD" (Ultra HD) is four times the resolution of Full HD. The pixels in width and height are each doubled. So a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels is achieved.
