What is a LNB?

An LNB (low noise block converter) is mounted in the focal point of a satellite dish. It consists of a metal tube (the "hornfeed") and a dipole with a low-noise amplifier. To the front, LNBS are covered only by a plastic plate, which is permeable to high frequencies. If an LNB receives a satellite signal, it amplifies this and converts it into the so-called "intermediate frequency". This converted signal is then forwarded via a coaxial cable to the receiver.
